Canada legalized Cannabis for adult recreational use in the fall of 2018. A number of new rules and regulations were introduced, including a cap on how much THC could be included in edible marijuana products. 

To protect the safety of Canadians. This limit was introduced, according to the Federal Government of Canada.

THC Limit On Edibles In Canada

As many weed lovers in Canada know, legal marijuana edibles have a limit of 10mg of THC per package. 

Because of this, no matter where you go in Canada, the strongest package of edibles you can buy is 10mg of THC. 

What this means is that someone who requires a 100mg dose of THC would need to purchase 10 packs of edibles. 

 10mg THC limit applies only to edible products such as chocolates, candies, gummies and beverages. 

You can buy THC oils such as Reign Drops which contain more THC per package than 10mg, but they have to be 10mg per dosage size.

In order to successfully make edibles in this manner, you need to understand a bit about decarboxylation. 

What is Decarboxylation?

A scientific process, Decarboxylation, puts cannabinoid rich materials through in order to activate the cannabinoids.  When done correct, THC or CBD converts from acidic state into activated state.

Many of the cannabinoids effects and benefits including sedation, pain relief and others are a result of this process.

When you apply heat to your marijuana products, it allows the cannabis to activate and release its chemical compounds . 

 

How Decarbing Cannabinoids Work

Understanding how decarbing cannabinoids works, you will need to have a basic idea of cannabinoids.

Cannabinoids are the chemical compounds found in weed which provide various benefits and effects. 

Compounds include THC and CBD as well CBD – A and THC – A.

Such cannabinoids  have an extra carboxyl group attached to their chemical chain, which will be released when heated. 

tetrahydrocannabinolic acid or THCA ,  is the raw form of THC which is found in raw cannabis flowers.

THCA provides a variety of benefits, however, it is not psychoactive and must be decarbed with heat before those effects can be felt.

Application of a bit of heat can activate a lot of amazing chemicals in your cannabis.

 

How to Decarboxylate Your Cannabis Products

Luckily, decarboxylation of cannabis products is quite straightforward and easy, however, it can be time consuming.

Producers will need a few things to begin Decarboxylating  weed, shatter, hash, kief, etc.

We will need cannabinoid material, an oven, a piece of parchment paper or an oven safe tray for the material and a baking sheet. 

Heat the oven up to 230 degrees Fahrenheit and place shatter, diamonds, hash or ground up weed onto the parchment paper to be placed into the warm oven. 

Place cannabis material on the baking sheet into the oven for 30-40 minutes, until product stops bubbling

Stir the cannabis products occasionally as they decarb.

Let the decarbed product sit and cool for a few minutes then place the silicone mat or parchment in the freezer for a few minutes to make it easier to handle. 

In order to do this we will need to work fairly quickly if we touch it with our fingers or it will melt into a sticky mess.

Cannabinoids are now ready for infusion or consumption.

This can now be added to any recipes you would like to make potent edibles. 

To figure out the dosage of the cannabis products simply divide the cannabinoid content by the number of products made

 IE: 85% THCA Diamonds / 12 Brownies = 70.8MG THC per brownie!

Cannabis Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe 

• 1 Gram Extracts (Shatter, Diamonds, Hash, Live Resin, ETC.)

• 1 cup butter, softened
• 1 cup white sugar
• 1 cup packed brown sugar
• 2 eggs
• 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• 2 teaspoons hot water
• ½ teaspoon salt
• 3 cups all-purpose flour
• 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

 

• Step 1: Heat oven to 230 degrees Fahrenheit 
• Step 2: place extracts/cannabinoids onto a silicone / parchment sheet to be placed into the oven for 30-40 minutes, until product stops bubbling. Stir occasionally.
• Step 3 : Let the decarbed product sit and cool for a few minutes.
• Step 4: Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for baking.
• Step 5: Cream together the butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Dissolve baking soda in hot water. Add to batter along with salt. Stir in flour, cannabinoids , chocolate chips, and nuts. Drop by large spoonfuls onto ungreased pans.
• Step 6: Bake for about 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until edges are nicely browned.
